There are a number of Cap d’Agde Day Trips you can do from the resort. With some splendid scenery, historical locations, vineyards, and a whole load more, there is plenty to see and do if you want to leave the nudist’s resort for a day. Below are some of the best options for Day Trips.
Agde Town
Agde the town in its own right is worth a visit. The weekend market is great for local produce and it’s a chance to experience more of the town in addition to the naturism resort.
Main attractions in Agde town
The town of Agde is 7km (about 4.5 miles) from the Cap and this quiet but attractive fishing port town is well worth visiting in its own right.
The town is quite small but it is quaint and the Cathédrale St-Etienne is quite impressive, with 12th-century architecture and 5th-century Roman foundations.
In and around Agde is also becoming known for its food and drink.
The Route des Vignerons et des Pêcheurs (Wine Growers and Fishermen Trail) is an expression being touted by the local tourism board.
The trail takes you through 9 villages, with 42 stops en route.
Le Cap d’Agde itself also has an aquarium with Mediterranean and tropical fish, and coral, and the aquarium is open year-round.
Within only a mile or so of the naturist resort, there is also a water park which is great for families.
- Cathédrale St-Etienne
- Route des Vignerons et des Pêcheurs.
- Aqualand Water Park if very popular with family groups who visit the Agde area – with plenty to entertain the family for a whole day.
- Sète fishing village.
- The town of Beziers is also nearby and worth a visit.
- For evening fun, you might also enjoy the Cap d’Agde casino outside the naturist resort and which attracts many casino lovers who visit the area. (Located on Rue des Loisirs in the marina area).
The truth is that the majority of people who visit Cap d’Agde village tend not to visit the textiled town, local market, main marina, and local attractions.
If you can include time though, I would recommend allowing 1 day to enjoy the local town at the end of your stay.
Day Trip to Montpellier
Montpellier is just over an hour’s drive from Agde town and is certainly worth visiting.
Montpellier is a great option if you are looking for somewhere for clothes shopping or for shopping for items other than groceries (which you might as well buy in the resort).
Montpellier can also be a welcome place of escape if you are looking for live music, the arts or to watch live sport.
This city has many historical sites and museums, and many good restaurants.

- Flying into Montpellier airport?
Sete
Sète is just only about 5 miles (8km) from Agde and Sète is known by some as the Venice of the Languedoc region.
If you have a car and want to venture outside of the naturist resort, the beautiful fishing village of ‘Sete‘ is only a 20-minute drive from Agde and is a great place to explore for a day.
Sete is also home to one of the biggest music festivals in the region each year.
The village also has several outstanding restaurants which serve fresh fish.
The beach is similar to that of Cap d’Agde given that they face the same coast and are but a few miles apart.
The location is a port city with some great seafood restaurants and cafes by the many canals.
The highlight of visiting Sete can perhaps be walking up Mont Saint-Clair which is 183 meters high.
From the top, on a clear day, you can view the Pyrenees, the village, the Bassin de Thau, and the Cevennes. More about Sète day trips.
Do make sure though to visit the Noilly Pratt tour.
Beziers
Many of you will find yourselves arriving into Beziers for the airport and driving straight through the town without stopping, as you head to the resort in Agde haste.
Located close to the Mediterranean coast in the southern French region of Languedoc is the city of Beziers.
Like many other cities in the region, it has a long and frequently violent history centered around the Cathar heresy, but today it is one of the major tourist destinations in the south of France.
Beziers was almost completely destroyed in 1215 by the Crusaders fighting against the Cather heretics.
For nearly three hundred years after the sacking of the city it was rebuilt and now boasts a series of examples of fine medieval architecture, many of which were rebuilt on previous sites destroyed by the Crusaders.
Saint-Nazaire Cathedral
Saint-Nazaire Cathedral is situated in the highest part of the Beziers and is visible from many miles away.
Saint-Nazaire was the scene of one of the most violent incidents in the crusade against the Cather when the Crusaders set fire to the church causing it to collapse on the hapless natives sheltering inside.
Between 1500 and 1800 the city was left largely untouched, but in the 19th century there was an extensive redevelopment and rebuilding of Beziers and the surrounding region.
The Museum of Fine Arts dates from 1859, as does Le Cimetiere Vieux, which is an open-air museum with numerous tombs and works of art by local sculptors.
Plateau des Poetes
In the same period, the Plateau des Poetes was laid out.
The Plateau is an enormous English-style park with heavy landscaping and dotted with statues and fountains and is a great place to spend an afternoon relaxing in the sunshine.
Built toward the end of the 19th century is the second of Bezier’s two arena’s (the first dating from the Roman era).
The arena was built in the style of Spanish bullrings and every August hosts the enormous bullfighting festival known as Le Feria, over one million visitors flock to Beziers each year for the five-day event.
Sea Jousts
Should you happen to be around near Beziers in the summer months another thing you should look for is the famous sea jousts.
Sea jousts are like medieval knightly jousting but done with two teams, each rowing a boat towards the other.
The jousts are very popular and something the like of which you are unlikely to have ever seen before.
Bezier is a lovely place to visit, and regardless of whether you’re staying for a day, a week, or a month, you could very easily keep yourself occupied.
It is also a popular destination for short visits, thus good for both short and long-term holidays.
Around the Languedoc Region
The Languedoc region offers some excellent opportunities for visitors with a number of wineries, rivers, attractions, and other sites. More about Languedoc day trips.
