Greece is still a very traditional place and though naturism is tolerated, officially it is not allowed, except at Vritomartis.
This means that naturists will need to keep the local people’s sensibilities in mind even as the many secluded tucked-away beaches and coves make this a haven of sorts.
The south coast of Crete has the best beaches where you can bare all and swim in the sea. Here are five places worth visiting in Greece.
1. Gavados Island
Situated in the middle of the Libyan Sea, the quiet beaches on Gavados Island are 80 per cent naturist.
The sandy and rocky terrain and tranquil atmosphere make it an irresistible naturist hotspot.

2. Sougia
Sougia is a favourite destination for many because of its great beaches and trekking routes.
Sougia still remains a small quiet village with scenic vistas and is located roughly 50 miles south of Chania. So from Chania it’s a very scenic drive through the mountains.
The naturist section of Sougia Beach can be found on the Eastern end.

3. Agia Roumeli
This remote village’s uniquely Cretan background, high mountains, deserted beaches, and the blue waters of the Libyan sea make it a beautiful place to commune with nature.
This is a fairly secluded and isolated naturist beach so it is perhaps not a beach to specifically travel here for. But if you are in the area then it is certainly worth checking out

4. Marmara Beach, Sfakia
Located in southwest Crete, Sfakia has scenic mountains, gorges and beaches, great cuisine and hospitable culture, all of which make it a must-visit place, especially if you are a practicing naturist.
Head to Marmara Beach and you can find many coves and beautiful small beaches.
This area is fairly isolated but it tends to still be popular in the main summer months.
5. Kommos Beach Matala
The birthplace of the Mediterranean sea turtle, this naturist beach on southern Crete offers great facilities for swimming and clothes-free sunbathing.
It also has many Greek taverns that serve mouth-watering food.
Other popular naturist-frequented spots in Greece are Red Beach, Paleochora Beach, the Sweet Water beach, and the only official Greek naturist resort, Vritomartis.
There are many naturist-friendly beaches though dotted around Greece.
