Le Ghymnos Restaurant, Heliopolis, Cap d'Agde

Introduction

  • Location: 1 Boulevard Matelots, Heliopolis Building (very close to the Le Green Bazar)
  • +33 4 67 26 06 09

Le Ghymnos (sometimes misspelled as Le Gymnos) is one of the most popular restaurants in the resort. and that many people recommend.

It is, in fact, our favorite restaurant, even more than ‘Le Mississippi’ which is a lot of people’s favorite place to eat in the resort.

Types of Food

Although classified as a pizza place, Le Ghymnos sell a variety of meals including:

  • salads
  • meats (steak and chips for example)
  • some seafood dishes
  • some Italian dishes such as lasagne
  • a range of desserts
  • The specialty is the pizzas though and these are made in a traditional stone oven as they use in cities such as Napoli in Italy, the home of pizza.

Considerations

Extras: On sitting down at your table, you will be presented with a complimentary apertivo glass of local wine.

On weekends and in the key summer months such as July and August, from 7.30 pm onwards, Le Ghymnos can get very busy.

It is, of course, a sign of a good restaurant when people are queuing to get a table. People are willing to wait and that probably tells you something!

Tip: If you want to avoid the queues, go there are 7 pm or choose a weekday.

Level of Service

The same staff pretty much have been working in Le Ghymnos for many years. Considering the number of people they cater to, I consider the service to be very good.

If you agree or disagree, please feel free to leave your thoughts and comments on the bottom of this page.

Our Thoughts

Apart from the excellent pizza, I like the fact that this restaurant is indoors, this means that you can eat without all of the flies that seem to be attracted to the food in the summer heat in the outdoor eateries.

At the same time, the restaurant is surrounded by glass windows so you can also enjoy people watching and enjoy seeing all the exotic and erotic costumes people sometimes wear as they walk past.

The prices are also very reasonable and the house wine is usually of good quality.

This restaurant is popular with both locals (locals come in on the weekends to eat and drink in the resort) and tourists tend to return many times.

On a weekend, you might have to wait 10 or 20 minutes if you arrive at 8 pm when it is very busy in season, but I recommend giving this place a go at least once.
