1. A Country that Embraces Camping Culture
France is a country that is ideal for camping given the number and quality of the campsites spread across this vast land.
The quality and standard overall are very high and with over 10,000 French campsites, the competition is high.
Whether you are interested in a coastal camping, naturist camping or countryside camping holiday, there are many great options and the French have a way of providing excellent and well-organized facilities at most sites, in comparison with many other European countries.
The French, if one might generalize, have a passion for the outdoors and camping and this really is a great country if you are ready to embrace this lifestyle too.
2. The French Summer Weather
If you are going to camp then the South of France is a good bet for good weather in the months of June, July and August.
My days of camping in the UK are finished, after far too many washed-out summer days.
Days of rain and mud are not my personal idea of camping!
Great weather is not guaranteed in France, it goes without saying, but the percentage of good weather is far higher. The Languedoc region I especially love and recommend.
3. Le Cap d’Agde Rene Oltra Campsite
Given that this site is mainly about Cap d’Agde, you might not be surprised that I am including the campsite in the resort.
The campsite gets included because it:
- runs parallel to a lovely mile-long sandy beach
- is on the south coast of France thus lovely in the summer months (make sure to watch one of the sunsets)
- well-organized and with great facilities including its own launderettes, bars, stores, and post office.
Based inside the naturist village, in Cap d’Agde, for many people, it is the campsite which is next to one of the best naturist beaches worldwide.
4. Budget and Cost of Camping in France
Camping is a cheap way to take a holiday and to save money you cannot go wrong with this type of holiday.
Prices in France tend to be very reasonable and sites such as those based in Brittany also offer a great chance to drive to the resort from the UK.

6. The Stunning French Countryside
France has some wonderful scenery and camping will allow you to spend some in the heart of areas including Bordeaux, Brittany, and Languedoc.
Camp in an area such as Bordeaux and you will have the chance to visit several world-class vineyards and to sample many interesting local foods.
7. French Wines
I know I have already mentioned vineyards and wine above, and yes, I do enjoy a glass of red wine from time to time.
Camping in France means that you will most likely be near to a shop or supermarket where you can buy some excellent French wines and at a very good price.
There is nothing better than sitting with a BBQ and a glass of local French wine. It is often incredibly cheap for some great high-quality wines.
8. Distractions and Attractions
Camping is great for getting quality time with friends and partners because there are less distractions normally.
You might purposely want to choose one of the sites which is not WiFi-enabled and have no television and connection to cyberspace.
A genuine chance to escape the electronic world for a few days or weeks.
9. The French People and Fellow Campers
Campers very often tend to be very social and friendly people from my experience and the atmosphere tends to be very relaxing on good campsites.
Camping is a great way to experience the outdoors.
10. Nature
The chance to be at one with nature, living in the outdoors and in what is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, is what a holiday is all about.
